Award recipients are chosen by Morse Alumni and awards are distributed by the main office. Applications are evaluated using the following criteria:
The extent to which the student is passionate & invested in their extracurricular pursuit.
The uniqueness of the enrichment opportunity & the extent to which it requires additional financial support to meaningfully pursue outside of school.
The potential impact of the award on the recipient's educational experience & personal development.
The ability of the recipient to concisely explain and articulate the value & significance of their passion and how the award would help them.
There isn't a specific formula or rubric, but there are a few things in common across winners of the award. First, winning applicants show a real depth of passion and interest for a particular activity. They're detailed, specific, and personal. Applicants write with excitement and enthusiasm for their passion that can only be described as contagious. And second, winning applications tend to be focused on something that's a little out of the ordinary, a passion or activity that isn't really common or easy to pursue. If you look at our past award recipients, you'll see great examples of this uniqueness. And third and finally, winning applications tend to be specific about why they need more funds and how they'll use them. To us application readers, this sort of specificity demonstrates a real passion and ownership of an activity since it's clear to us that the person has really thought about their activity and how to actually pursue it.
Yes, and we encourage it! Applying multiple times shows additional passion and dedication to an activity.
If you're selected, you'll receive an email from us 1-2 weeks after the application deadline. Because we receive many applications, we are not always able to notify non-recipients.
No, the award is only for individual students pursuing an activity. It is not for organized groups, clubs, or teams.
You receive the award as a cash grant (in the form of a check made out to you) from Morse High School. You can spend the money however you want to help you pursue your activity.
